Hey there, my name is Tyler Lyons. I come from the relatively small city of Miramichi, New Brunswick and I am a third year journalism major. My big passions are writing and film, a subject which I am also looking to obtain a degree in. I looked at the Journalism program here at Saint Thomas and decided that it would be the best start for a career in writing and film. The program has been a great learning experience so far. It is a wonderful experience being able to meet so many different people and uncover so many stories.

I was born in Bristol, England, but reside in Wolfville, Nova Scotia. I’m a 3rd year Journalism and Communications major. I am the also Sports Editor of the Aquinian and am pursuing a career as a sports journalist.

I lived in England for 16 years, before moving to Canada during the summer of 2007. I am a passionate sports fan and spend the majority of my spare time watching sports. I also enjoy listening to music and playing video games.

My ambition is to have a career as a sports journalist, although in what specific field I haven’t yet decided. I have no preferance whetherI work in tv or print, and am open to reporting on many different sports.

When the bartending started to wear thin, I decided to hit the books,….hard! Currently enrolled as a 3rd and 4th year journalism student, I’m attempting to complete a four year program in two. History and sociology majors are also set to finish this year, to compliment the journalism. I’m also a student at UNB working on a science degree with a focus on biology. But it’s not all work! I play as an on-air host at a trio of Fredericton radio stations including 105.3 the Fox and Capital FM. In my spare time I write weekly for the Saint Thomas University publication “The Aquinan,” where I also sit on the board of directors. Grad school application for a journalism masters is the next thing on the horizon. If I’m not the next David Suzuki someday I’ll be pretty disappointed!

Justin Marshall, 3rd Year

My name is Justin Marshall, and I’m a third year journalism, communications and political science student from Brookfield, NS. I currently work at 106.9 Capital FM in their newsroom, and I am also a news writer for the Brunswickan. I host a radio show on CHSR called Political Junkies, as well as I’m the Communications Liaison for the St. Thomas men’s soccer team. My passion for journalism is from always dreaming to be a national sports anchor for TSN since I was five years old.

I am originally from Timmins, Ontario where I grew up reading as many books as I could get my hands on. Now I live in Fredericton and attend St Thomas as a third year journalism student. I still love to read, but now I write stories, too. I’ve taken an interest in print and television journalism and am eager to learn more about both mediums.

Journalism is competitive, but I’ve never been one to shy away from a challenge. Storytelling is my passion and I can’t wait to embark on an exciting career, telling the stories of others.

I also love documentary and would like to try my hand at a longer form of story-telling someday.

Journalism isn’t my only passion. Cross country running has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. As a member of the women’s cross country running team at St Thomas, I enjoy the life of a student athlete.

Born in Niger, I was adopted and have lived in several countries around the world. I have gone to several international schools in countries such as the Phillipines, the Netherlands, Kenya and mostly recently Brazil. I’ve also picked up several languages that include Dutch, Portuguese and French. With all the travelling I’ve done, one constant a has always been the BBC. Watching the the news every night educated and inspired me to pursue journalism and I hope to one day become a foreign correspondent. I enjoy working in all mediums but I find most of my strengths lie in radio. I have played high school and university varsity sports, written and recorded music and have participated in Model United nations which I believe have given me a broad base of knowledge in different areas of journalism.

Growing up, I never could pick a profession because I wanted to be everything from a teacher to an actress. When I came across the journalism program I knew it was for me. I love to write because it means I’m always learning. Broadcast television gives me that little bit of acting I enjoy. I’m most interested in writing about foreign affairs and human rights issues. I hope to cover stories abroad. I am double majoring in Journalism and Human Rights.

I come from Greece where I lived and worked until 2009.

Then the opportunity came along, and I relocated to Canada to study Journalism at STU.

I mostly enjoy working for TV projects and documentaries that cover stories from all over the world.
